Should you be in dire need of some distractions, below is a description of things to do.The Sierra del Segura is a paradise for nature lovers. The region offers great hiking and cycling trails. We have a wide variety of maps (or look on this site) , and can suggest many fantastic walks in the area. Bird-watchers (something you'll become the minute you visit the region) will rejoice in the great variety of birds. There are owls, hawks, Golden Eagles, Goshawks, Kingfishers, buzzards, Bee Eaters, Hoopoes, Egyptian Vultures and many, many others. Since 2006, there's a reintroduction program for the Lammergeier (or Bearded Vulture) in the Sierra de Cazorla (protected reserve), which is nearby. There is also plenty of interesting wildlife to be found on the ground, like lizards, wild boars, deer, snakes, squirrels and foxes. See the Surroundings section of the site for more info. From relaxed routes to very challenging ones, for example to Riopar. The Sierra de Espuña and Sierra de Cazorla are also within reach. All routes can be done with GPS, available at this website. The asphalt roads are in good shape, making the region also perfectly accessible to road cyclists.We can organize rides through the area with a guide, but if you prefer going it alone we can provide you with maps or GPS files.The Vias Verdes are old disused railway lines that have been recovered and reconditioned for use by walkers and cyclists. Exploring them is a different, enjoyable and environmentally friendly way of getting to know Spain, its culture and its landscapes. This is an alternative ideal for all ages, which respects the environment and brings together sport and the great outdoors.Other fun stuff you can experience in the region includes: swimming in one of the rivers, climbing, horse riding, vineyard visits etc. Look on the page Famous Vineyards for more information about the Jumilla wines. To the North following the Don Quichotte route is an option.This is a full day trip, via the famous mills of Consuegra, and foremost Campo de la Cristana, Belmonte and El Toboso, where time stoot stil since Dulcinea, Don Quichote's beloved, lived there.
